Murray Bookchin, the influential left-libertarian social theorist and self-described utopian, died in 2006. Best known for his book The Ecology of Freedom, Bookchin stressed decentralization and direct democracy in conjunction with a groundbreaking focus on ecology. Bookchin gave a speech in the 1970s entitled "Ecology and Ideology."
